ADD, ADHD

An article “FOCUS ON THE FAMILY” in TODAY newspaper to share with all parents.

ADD KIDS MAY JUST BE SLEEPY. Here’s another reason not to be so quick to diagnose kids with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). Researchers recently discovered that a lot of young kids who were thought to be suffering from ADD or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) were really just having trouble sleeping. Some were heavy snorers. Others simply didn’t go to bed early enough. They studied a number of kids between five and seven years old who showed symptoms of attention deficit or hyperactivity, and found that about a quarter of them snored. Some even showed signs of sleep apnea, where breathing is blocked throughout the night. The researchers found that when they treated the sleeping problems, a lot of the kids were able to sit still and focus better. Too many kids are being misdiagnosed today. If you think your child may have ADD or ADHD, make sure you’ve looked into other possibilities. It could be that they simply need more sleep. FOCUS ON THE FAMILY BY DR BILL MAIER.
